A little bit about coastal community

Beach ! What comes to your mind when talking about it ? is it about surfing, wave, or sunbathing ? I know what's on your mind, you must be thinking about BIKINI !! However, There are a lot of things we can discuss about beach beside bikini. Now, in this article, i want to share my experience about short interview on coastal person on the Widuri beach, district of Pemalang. I emphasize to you why i say that it's a coastal community instead of fishermen because, i not only talk about fishing activity but also the role of the office, and the income of a ship captain.

First of all, this was the first time for me to directly interview a coastal person and it's Mr. Wasman who was lucky to be interviewed by me back then. He said that as a captain of the ship, he had role to drive the ship from the sea port to the middle of the sea. Before leaving to sail to the middle of the sea, he needed to meet his team in Bali island. After that, he and his team went to the place called fishing ground where they could do their job. The location of the fishing ground was in the Hindia ocean which was near to Christmas island. It took about two hours for them to reach the destination. Amid the sea, they caught the fish by spreading the longline fishing. The longline fishing consists of some fishhooks which are tied on horizontal rope.

Then what else ? Yes, we've come to talk about the role of the office. I had thought that the coastal community's jobs were only about sailing, fishing, and selling the result of fishing. But now, after interviewing Mr. Wasman, my mind was widely opened. Coastal community right now was advanced enough. They cooperated between the sailing one and the one who works on the land. Ya, they had office on the land. The roles of the office were to communicate the sailing one about the weather on the sea ect. Okay, without intending to waste moments to be written on this post, i'm just trying to say that actually offices had so many roles for the coastal community. I just couldn't mention it one by one :). Above all, coastal community civilization is not poor like we thought it used to be.

When we talked about a work, it wouldn't be far from salary or income. Mr. Wasman said that he could earn money by about Rp. 500.000.000 after going home from sailing amid the sea. He said it could happen before Mrs. Susi Pujiastuti took charge as minister of fishery and marine because, Mr. Wasman had ever become a captain of taiwanese ship. So, after he moved to Indonesian ship captain, he was only able to earn money by about Rp.200.000.000. What a high income for someone who never got a formal education at school like Mr. Wasman.

Finally, we could highlight that there were a lot of things we could discuss about coastal community. They were also advanced enough and did not fall behind. After that, with a hard work, they could earn income which was not small. We should be inspired by coastal community's life and never underestimate them.
